TRAINING NOTES 4-29-09

Training has picked up the last few days, which is great! I figured that I would start posting training blogs, since my writing isn't ready for the viewing public yet.

Okay, Monday I worked with Robert on boxing, sparring and pad work for roughly an hour. After that I trained in kata, basics, shadow boxing and meditation. I am a traditional stylist at heart.

Tuesday I started a new conditioning program, in which I doubled what was recommended. I know I am weak in that area so I am attacking it. Here is what I did, and remember, these reps are broken down into sets of three with a minute in between sets to stretch the body parts being used.

1. Push ups 180 reps

2. Dips 180 reps

3. wide grip push ups 180 reps

4. crunches 180 reps

5. leg lifts 180 reps

6. jack knives 80 reps (still working on these)

7. squats 180 reps

8. chairs 180 reps

9. mountain climbers 70 reps (legs were burning by now, not to mention the pain shooting through my shoulders)

Jason came over Tuesday night and we worked on pad drills and sparring.

Wednesday I repeated everything except for sparring with jason. It's been a Looooong time since I trained this hard, but I know it will be worth it. I am fortunate to have two awesome sparring partners in Jason And Robert. Two fantastic fighters. I am looking forward to seeing my physical transformation, and I'm giddy about getting into the cage. I feel like I'm reborn. I will be increasing the workout as I progress, so I probably will not be posting this daily untill I do increase the intensity or change the excercises.

Further notes: My stand up is good, having a background in karate and kickboxing this is to be expected. My ground game is good as well, I can lock up an opponent, but I do prefer to ground and pound. Nothing wrong with going for a submission, but I feel that for me, it takes too long, and that gives my opponent too many opportunities to counter me. Better to get it over with. Back when I was competing before, I was pretty well known for my kicking abilities. My kicks are still very fast and powerful, but I am still hoping to improve on them. I am hoping to learn some new drills that will help me achieve this.

Thanks for reading!

Strike fast,

Train hard,

And have the sweetest nightmares!!

Thom
